The first one doesn't surprise me at all.

This occupation could be the poster child for underappreciated careers - both in terms of perception and salary. Childcare workers are responsible for bathing, feeding, and introducing infants and toddlers to basic concepts, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Oh man, it really is unappreciated as a job. And the career alternative suggested by the article is pretty unappreciated, too.

I really disliked taking care of kids. It is super exhausting and challenging on so many levels. I underestimated how hard it would be to care for kids before I had any experience as a nanny.

I don't work in that field anymore (Thank the Lord).

I find this to be sort of stupid. How is the higher paying alternative to a bank teller an accountant?

Anyways, there are other jobs that are paid even less than this....

I see your point. At the end of the day money is money, it's better to be employed and making some money rather than sitting on the couch daydreaming. Everyone has to start somewhere.

child care is not one of the lowest paying jobs, it is actually one of the highest. most career nannies make between 60-120 k a year. I am not a career nanny, but make 18.5 an hour and 27.75 on weekends after 7 pm. I am also UNderpaid because I still dont have my daca. I've always told other women, if you want to make money and like spending your summer, swimming at the pool and tanning, get a childcare job.

p.s also because of my status I cant offer to fly out of the country (eventhough I've been offered month long vacations in spain, london, and seychelles islands off the coast of africa and have had to turn down every offer. most families let you split the days, half working for them, half on your own all expenses paid). From working with some families, it is not uncommon for a parent to come home @ 8 pm and ask you to have the kids packed and ready to go in an hour for a last minute vacation to a foreign country, this is why the job pays so well, because you cant just be like huh what do i do?, you need to get shit done quick and get that smart phone out to check the weather of where ever they are going.

Yeah... I know someone who makes $15 per hour, but if she has to do some light cleaning, she charges $20... She's a PR though...

Anyway, I think the article (which is not a good article at all) talks about working at a day care or something. I know people who have worked at day cares and those things can be a nightmare, plus people are usually underpaid.
