I was brought over to the US from the Bahamas along with my little sister by our mother when I was twelve. She told us that we were going to live here from now on, but she dropped us off at her sisters house and went back to the Bahamas. After two years of visiting us on and off she took my younger sister back but left me. Everything was going great until the summer before my senior year of high school, when I wanted to get a job but couldn't. For four and a half years I had thought that I was here legally and that my stuff was in order as it turns out I was wrong. When the time came to fill out college applications the same problem always arose...How was I going to pay for it? I couldn't work, my estranged mother was no help and my my aunt and uncle had thier own kids future tuition to worry about so I was stuck. After graduating in 2005 I cheered all of my friends on as they went off to college, all the while watching all of my plans fall and turn into dust. I looked into ways of getting a green card but the only option open was getting married (at 18??) and back then I knew nothing of The Dream Act. I'm currently living in the Tampa Bay(FL) area and my twentieth birthday is next month, my mother has officially abandoned me and I really don't know how much longer my aunt will let me stay in here. The Dream Act bill means so much to me right now...it just has to be passed.

I'm sorry that your story has to turn out this way. Keep on calling, hoping, and praying for the Dream Act to pass. Welcome to the forum.

your situation isn't hopeless (i don't think).
did you look into private scholarships? it could let you start college. and did you look into the community colleges in tampa? hillsborough CC? i'm not sure if they accept undocumented students, but go to the International Office (or ask someone you trust) to ask about their policy. You may be able to start college. You may even look into going to random mom and pop's stores to see if they'd hire you. I know someone is trying that right now and to be honest, I should too.

good luck. There are many people in here from Florida that could help you out. let us know how things turn out.

and as everyone said, you should probably visit the taking action section:
http://dreamact.info/forum/viewforum.php?f=7

and make sure to read the FAQ (or else you'll ask questions already answered, and there are a few members that'll get pissed ) :

I'm really sorry to hear this has happened to you. Our parents are our only pillars of support, and when we don't have that even, I can't imagine the loneliness and heartache that goes on. You have us here, your new friends and family, and don't hesitate to ask anyone for help. I see there are others already here giving good advice. Do not despair, something will work out soon. Just don't give up trying. *hugs my friend*
