So one of my old friends is undocumented... He's in his forties and he's been he since he was 18 . On December he was laid off of his job the he has been working on the past 20 years.. He then applied for unemployment but lied on the part of being a USC or having legal status.. He got a letter. Saying the he has an appointment n the 22nd for an extension for the benefits.. The thing is that he has to bring papers to prove he is able to work here legally and he gots nothing. He says he's not going . Question is.. Will he be automatically disqualified from the for or other future reforms? As of today he's not getting the checks.. Any thoughts

If they can prove he lied about his status, probably.

Collecting a benefit based on a status you don't have is not only a bar to immigration benefits, but fraud as well.

If they find out, yes it's a felony, don't do it.

What he did was a huge NO-NO, he better not show up to that appt either. I'm sure they already know he lied and hiding behind door number 2 will be INS officers waiting to deport him. They might be thinking he has fake documents he will risk showing them to continue getting the checks. There is no hiding anything from the govt, it might take them a little bit but at the end they always find out.

Hopefully when CIR passes there will be some sort of way for the thousands of people who have worked under fake papers or given fake info to still qualify. But he did even more than that by accepting money so I don't know. Best of luck to him!

I'm not going to start listing ways of how he can break the law, but most likely he'd be the one who would have to volunteer that information. They'd ask him to prove he's been here and he brings up the employment info for instance...

There are many ways to prove it. I sure they will check the documents such as SSN to verify the name on the card match the name on computer, just like how DMV does it. There is a chance that the gov already find out about it and transfer your friend's case to Homeland security. In the near future, there is a possibility that ICE would be knocking on his door since he use his home address. He would be detain for a while and then put into the process of deportation. Btw, ICE also check the status of other resident while they come to his door, so if he has undocumented family members, they too could be deported.
