Just thought I'd share this interesting read. I know a few of our fellow dreamers who went home before DACA was released. This is a story of one of them.

Quote:
When U.S. President Barack Obama began stopping the deportations last year of some young immigrants living in the country illegally, Adriana Gil Diaz realized that she had just made the biggest mistake of her life by returning to Mexico.

Her mother took Gil to the United States without authorization when she was a baby, and she grew up and went to school in the legal shadows.

Then, at age 20, Gil decided to leave her Phoenix home and return to her native Mexico where she could afford to attend college. But nearly two years later, those dreams have crashed: Unforeseen bureaucratic hurdles have blocked her from enrolling, and she's run out of money. She's also missed out on a rare chance to qualify for legal status in the U.S.

"It was really sad, depressing to feel I was so far away and that I had lost the opportunity to apply for that process," Gil said.

Last year, Obama lifted the hopes of many immigrants when he announced his government would defer deportation for hundreds of thousands of so-called dreamers, or people such as Gil who entered the U.S. without legal permission when they were under the age of 16. Since implementing the program last August, the U.S. has approved the applications of some 400,000 people seeking to stay in the country.

Gil not only would have qualified under that plan but, as it turns out, actually might have been better off getting caught and forcefully deported back to Mexico. Immigrant advocates say they know of dozens of dreamers in similar circumstances.

We know what must be done. The Senate bill has a component for Dreamers outside the US....but the House has yet to introduce their variation of Dream act.Unless there is an urging from Dreamers to have it included between now and when the legislation is introduced we'll never know.

This is sad; I hope there can be some relief for these dreamers. I completely understand why somebody in our position would want to go "home", though, especially when things seem so dire in terms of future prospects.

At the same time, what happened to Gil is what I feared would happen if I had chosen to go back to my country of origin when I turned 18.

There was one dreamer here who went back to the Philippines and applied to study in Canada (with some opportunities for adjustment, I believe), and was successful. I've seriously considered this route, but it's pretty hard to immigrate there (as it is in most countries), without finishing college and having some experience in a STEM job.

People who return to an UNKNOWN country even if its where they were born will not have a very good chance if their immediate family isn't well-off. There's a whole lot of nepotism going on in Mexico, so if you're not in.. you're shit out of luck. I've heard countless of stories of people leaving to mexico just to be in the same place they were here in the USA if not worse. Sad, but that's just the way things are. Better luck next time i guess.

They don't want to give us an education or any kind of governmental help. I doubt they'd be willing to let them back in.

I have visited this site for the last couple of years, I found it very helpful. Never thought of actually registering till reading this. Definitely hits home. I have several family members here in the states but the only undocumented were my Mother, brother and my self. Around 2007-08 the recession hit the family hard and my Mom felt she would have better luck in Mexico. Till this day she has not been able to find a job. Apparently age thus matter and also the fact that she hasn't been there for the last 20some years. In late 2011 my brother decided that he could not take it any more and in March of 2012 also left. We came to this country when he was 6yrs old and I was 4yrs. My mother tried in different occasions to legalized our situation but something always went wrong. Who would of known that if he would of just waited 3 more months. I can't wait for this law to pass so I can bring them back home.
