Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ruled out the House’s “bite-sized” approach to immigration reform and said the Senate will only consider a comprehensive package.

Just as Speaker John Boehner has said the Senate’s bipartisan immigration bill will not come to the House floor, Reid said he won’t take a look at any piecemeal legislation that comes over from the House. He called the House’s strategy to pass individual immigration items a “weird deal over there that no one really understands.”
Now the House, I’m told, are now working on pieces of the immigration bill. We must do comprehensive immigration reform, President Bush said. He still says that. The Republicans need to focus on that,” Reid said. “We’re not going to do bits and pieces of this. They all fit together.”

The Senate-passed bill, which drew 14 Republican votes, has been declared by much of the House GOP as unworkable. Instead the House is starting with border security measures — even though Reid and other Democratic leaders like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) insist the Senate bill could pass the House.

“It’s not really that difficult,” Reid said Tuesday afternoon. “Just bring what we did here to the House floor, let everybody vote on it. It would pass overwhelmingly.”

Still, even piecemeal bills passed by the House could lead to an eventual bicameral conference with the Senate. Reid did not specifically mention or rule out that possibility.

We need to start a massive petition informing the public of how Republicans are OBSTRUCTING this piece of bill and EVERY other bill that looks to better the domestic state of this country. It really is time to expose the Republicans completely. While we're at it, let's get those scumbag backstabbing Democrats too who are using this issue politically.

They just blame each other. They act like rivals...much like the red and blue gangs....

I believe that Reid is doing the right standing his ground.

It's unfair for a section of Congress to work so hard on something, just for it to be shot down. The Senate bill really does include favorable items from both sides of the spectrum, but the Republicans are too stubborn to accept that.

Republicans need something to lure votes from the Hispanic community, so that's why they are doing the bare minimum to pass something that minimally revolve around immigration reform that we actually need.

I am glad that Reid will not tolerate anything less, because that will help us in the long run. Here truly is a great Senate majority leader. I hope that John Boehner and the House Republicans take a strong stance to go with the positive flow of change, and not what is presumably the best option for their position in the Congress.

Edit: Very eloquent title by Politico, by the way.

How the fuck is everyone gonna sit here saying democrats are backstabbing? I'm glad that Reid is standing his ground, we don't want these fucking piece of shit chopped up bills, it's called comprehensive immigration reform because it covers everything.. If he took their shitty approach republicans would vote only on everify and security and not vote on the legalization part and we'll end up fucked.. Stop saying democrats are backstabbing, they're protecting your sorry asses.. These republicans in the house are snakes and I'm glad the senators know that. Why the fuck should senior senator cater to first term shitty 2 year represanatives? Makes no sense.

The Democrats are able to manipulate your thinking. And they do it in a very clever way without you even knowing it.

Here is why: The Democrats including Harry Reid want to delay the CIR for as LONG as possible. They just want to keep it as an issue, so that they continue to win. They do not want the RESULTS. That is why they keep finding grounds for blaming the Republicans.

In fact, in as early as 2006, Harry Reid knew that a CIR bill cannot originate from the Senate. And he knows well that a CIR bill that includes revenue can only originate from the House to be constitutional. But he does not care! He is a good performer and director. So, he directs this year's CIR show in a smart way that works for the Democrats.

Being well aware of the fact that the bill is unconstitutional from day ONE, he continues to do his CIR show all the way through the end. But when the show is over in the senate, he does not even let the House have the bill. And at the same time, he blames the Republicans in the House for not acting on the senate bill which he never delivers to the House and which he knew is unconstitutional in as early as 2006.
