Hey everybody -

I'm a reporter and I've sent out emails to EVERY public college and university in Florida asking for clarification about their stance on DACA and in-state tuition. I'm making a spreadsheet and I'm going to put it all into map so hopefully that will be a central place for everyone to get info.

Right now, everyone knows about FIU's waiver. Edison State has said they'll accept DACA as *part* of proving residency, and UNF just told me the same. I'm happy to post the info here too once I get all the responses.

If anyone has had good/bad/successful/unsuccessful experiences with a school - getting in-state tuition or an equivalent waiver, or even a great scholarship from the school that brings down the cost - it would be great to compare what the schools are telling me with what's really happening.

Ah! ... and as I was writing this, another university just emailed to say they will accept DACA for in-state too! Stay tuned. I'll try to compile the responses I have (about half) by the end of the week.

-Victoria

Id would be nice to see MDC change their ways, right now unless you're 24 or you can claim independent according to their guidelines they will not classify you for in-state.

Good news from UF guys, it seems that there is progress to acquiring in-state tuition. There's a guide with plenty of info here:

http://ihlc.multicultural.ufl.edu/sp.../dreamer_guide

I have yet to look through the whole thing, but it seems being a Dreamer at University of Florida is a realistic possibility. It seems there is info on financial aid and applying as well as life on the campus as a DACA student.

I know op is putting all of this information together, but figured it would be a good place to post it.

Here it is from: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/residency/exc3.html

Quote:
Non-U.S. citizens in the following categories are also eligible to establish Florida residency for tuition purposes. Documentation is required for all claims.
• Individuals granted deferred action status

Thanks! That's helpful, I don't think I've heard back from UF yet. UNF and FAMU sound like they are on board too, but I need to read through their responses carefully to make sure I'm not mistaken.

It's interesting that FIU came out announcing it, but other schools seem to be filtering the news out slowly.

At FGCU? I know FIU was doing the waiver, but not FGCU...

I've asked FGCU again what their policy is - and I specified in-state OR a waiver. But like I said, a few weeks ago they said no, so I don't know what's going on.
