I know of someone who was illegal, EWI. All that stuff. And they received their greencard. What they did was, they filled out some form (I have yet to find out which one) that gave them a greencard because they argued that they needed to be here to take care of their senior citizen parents. So basically it's sort of a humanitarian thing. The parents and their health was dependent on this illegal alien so he filed this so he could stay in the US and he got it. So my dad is going to try to do the same thing, we are getting more info from our lawyer. Have you guys ever heard of anything like this?

Wow, I worded that so terribly. Lol.

It could be two things
1- would a consular process with waiver or
2-cancellation of removal for certain permanent residents which only an immigration judge can grant. It's not as easy as it sounds.

EWI has to leave unless covered under 245i. Only difference being with I-601A is that they can waive the previous illegal presence while still in US and then just leave to pick up a visa at a consulate.
