Hello people, i was wondering if anybody know anything about being sponsored by a permanent resident parent when youre the age of 21. I have heard that there is a 10 year ban so im kinda confused into all this... should i wait for my father to become a us citizen in 3 years?

This is from USCIS website:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/usc...0045f3d6a1RCRD

Scroll down to the part under the Eligibility section where it says "If Sponsor is a Permanent Resident...."

The 10 year ban only comes into effect if you leave the country. Do you have a petition under Section 245(i) filed on your behalf or your parent(s) behalf? If not, then you might have a problem. You may have to leave the country to adjust your status, which would trigger the 10 year ban.

What's your country of birth? If one of your parents is a US citizen you fall in a higher preference category, but it takes longer to have a visa number available for certain countries, my dad is a US citizen but I have to wait for more than 10 years because I was born in Mexico and Mexico has a high rate of immigrants to the US as we all know.

I was wondering, does the sponsor have to be you close relatives? like your parents or your siblings? or it can be any of your relatives?
