Hey gang,

Let's say you got hired as a full time and the HR points out the 2-yr expiration mark. You get hired anyways.

Do you think the HR dept will ask you to see a renewed work permit when you when the time comes or you think you are safe since you been a full time worker for the past two years?

Cheers.

It is your responsability to show them your renewed EAD. If you dont guess what?? You are jobless. Some big companies dont play around.

Of course they will ask you to provide them with legal documents that allow you to continue to work.
They could get some harsh fines if they don't.

I think you have to renew it at least 6 months before it expire but so far we have no directions of doing so

I think this may be an appropriate thread for me to pose a question which may enhance our understanding of this and help me out at the same time. So what happened last year..I got approved for DACA. Obviously, case deferred for two years. However, the EAD was valid for only 1 year. I called USCIS and let them know what's going on. Nobody was able to give me a proper answer. Got two difference answers. One person said it is a part of "prosecutorial discretion". Another said the EAD should be for two years. So few weeks later they sent me a letter saying something along the lines of "if there is some error on your EAD, please send it to the following address with supporting documentation". Here is where I made a huge mistake...I ignored the issue and let the letter lie there for almost a year. I just sent the EAD back with that letter just few weeks ago. My EAD is set to expire this November..just about two months. I sure hope USCIS gets me a reply or I might be in huge trouble at work. Should I call USCIS to get an update on it? I just HOPE they can reissue a new EAD soon...or if not send it back to me ASAP so I can apply for renewal...huge mistake by waiting at the end minute to solve the problem. Always do what you can do today! sry for the huge essay..

(We really need an I-9 sticky) If they do their job right, they should ask you for the renewed card/document on or before the expiration date (I'm not making this up, it's part of the I-9). Read the I-9 form (everybody should, won't take you more than 10 minutes) here.

It depends. If it's a relatively small company where the HR doesn't have a sophisticated computer system keeping track of EAD expiration dates, then they probably won't remember to pull your paper file and check. If it's a big corporate company, you can bet that your EAD expiration date is in their system, and that HR would be automatically notified when the date is near.
