According to a immigration lawyer Mario Lobo who gives advice in Despierta America by Univision network. This shut down will affect any pending applications with USCIS. But I bet if you summit an application they will still take the $$$ as fast as they can.

I don't think this is fair Specially for people that have been waiting for over 1 yr.

USCIS runs on the fees it gets from the applications. It's business as usual for them

Should've applied sooner; it's only going to get worse and more dramatic the closer we are to CIR.

Yes let's just keep in mind that there is no fee for I-821d

There is, you're paying $380 for the I-765 + I-821D packet and $85 for biometrics. You could argue that I-821D is free, but it's more of an attachment to I-765 rather than a standalone application.

But as others have said, USCIS is funded primarily by application fees, whatever cuts done to USCIS will be minimal because they are self sufficient, they don't need to Uncle Sam to borrow/take money from elsewhere.

However if you're currently trying to get an EB green card (like yours truly) then that can delay the process since the Department of Labor is shut down.

Bottom line: univision isn't always right.

How about the FBI? Are they shutting down? If it isn't, what about their department that runs the background checks.

I read somewhere that anything that protects national security won't be affected. Although I'm not sure.

Yep, I remember yelling at that guy to get it fixed, but nope, wait all the way until expiration and go all "I should have done it sooner", lol.
