However, once you turn 18, you start to accrue presence. By 180 after your eighteenth birthday, you will have acquired a three year ban from the country, which will be initiated once you leave the U.S. Once you have accrued one year of unlawful presence, that will become a ten year ban. If you leave the country while you have the three year ban and attempt to enter within three years, the ban will become a ten year one. If you leave the country with the ten year ban and attempt to enter within ten years, that will become a permanent ban and will not be waivable until you have been outside of the country for ten years.
I will turn 18 1/2 in January I can not leave the US because I will still be in HS. I graduate '08 what can I do? I had plan on going to college in Mexico but my mother decided to stay one more year. She saids that if nothing changes this coming year maybe something will happen in '09 so she would rather me stay in case something does happend. She saids that if nothing happends by '09 then we will be going back.

well, i would advise you to stay...one more year is nothing compared to all the years we have waited for. If you leave the US it will be harder for you to get back in. So, graduate, and find a job, hang in there...something will have to be done about this situation, sooner or later.

You have time on your side because you are pretty young.

Relax, go to a CC after you graduate, some of us graduated a long time ago and were still waiting, you're still young.

Hey! I'm 08 too! but I'm 17, 18th bday is in august so lucky me! The funny thing is that when I came to this country I came in march and school where I come from used to start in march, but here in march it was already ending almost, so pretty much I skipped a grade and that's why I'll still be 17...but I think that you should leave, I mean can't you like, double up the classes so u can finish faster?

You both came here on a visa right? You have no way of coming back legally. I recommend staying here, getting an education and one day DREAM will pass or you will get married. Leaving is only something I would recommend to someone who came here illegally and was about to turn 18 and knew they were going to get married to their citizen Girl/boyfriend.

personally... if you want to leave and really think that's the right decision for you, then go ahead. if i were in your place... i wouldn't leave. so many of us have made it through college, didn't go out to clubs much, still don't drive, don't travel much and we're still standing strong and making the best out of our lives.

you are only 18... something will prolly pass by the time you're 20/21. but good luck with whatever you decide.
