..Yes, another SS question. But I tried the search! Now that the govt is open for business again, I'm planning to go get one soon.

Does anyone know if going to get an SSN with just EAD, approval notice, and a valid state driver's license will be enough? Such as:

EAD to prove Immigration Status and Identity, and the DL for proof of age? I also have university card, which USCIS used.

I only have a passport that's really old & expired for many years, picture of when i was like 4 yrs old. My country's consulate is giving me a really hard time getting an updated passport/birth certificate because of documents I'm missing. This is part of the reason why I got 2 RFEs..

You can call them at 800-772-1213 and they will answer all of your questions. But based on what you say. If you have your EAD and DL you are good to go.

I went in today to apply for my SSN. I got there, picked up my ticket and looked at the time. It was 12:48.
10 min later my number was up and I went to the window booth and all I had with me was my EAD and my original birth certificate.

They did ask me for the "official" letter you receive (the one that says "United States of America" and is a green color). I didn't bring it with me!

Luckily my lawyer had sent me a PDF a few days ago because she got it before me.

That was it... They gave me the notice stating it would be about 2 weeks or a little longer because of the Gov shutdown.

All in all the process took like 35mim. I was thinking it would be hours. There weren't many people there either.

What's a website?

.. of course i checked, it's not very clear at all, i was hoping there was someone else here who went with just EAD & DL.. all it says is:

You must present your foreign birth certificate if you have it or can get it within 10 days. If not, we will consider other documents such as your passport or a document issued by DHS as evidence of your age..
We may use one document for two purposes ...However, you must provide at least two separate documents.

Do you have a mexican consulate close to where you live? If I am not mistaken they provide copies of your birth certificate...

I went today, I took everyting relating to DACA that I had gotten or send out. (copes & originals) All the took was the Passport, AED and application for a SS.

BUT i do have a question for others that have gotten their SS! My friend told me she was interviewed for her SS, and that she got it in regular time. Everything went fine when I got my number called at SSA, BUT I did NOT get interviewed and I got a letter from the lady stating, that it could take UP TO 4 WEEKS to get my SSC in the mail because they have to VERIFY my AED, and legal status. Can anyone tell me why this happened?

Is it because of the shutdown? I've never heard of anyone saying they got this letter, Ive read and seen people getting their SSC in a couple of days not weeks!

ANY explanation, comments?

BUT i did NOT give the lady COPIES. I showed her my AED which was the same AED I got from USCIS and my ORIGINAL PASSPORT.

I don't know why she thought they were copies OR why they needed to be verified?!

You show them the original or certified copies. It was fine that you showed them your original documents. However, you should have gotten them back at the end of your visit. They would do a copy of the documents, they don't need the originals.

It is the Social Security's job to verify your documents with the Department of Homeland Security to make sure you're able to work in the US and your are legally here.
