So I am Replying back guys about my trip to bank of America this afternoon, which actually went pretty well, i asked them if i could open an account, and all they looked at was my passport, although i brought my birth certificate as well. I told them from the get-go, that i did not have an SSN, in which they told me it was no problem. Not only did i get a checking account but i got a savings account, because i was enrolled in the keep the change program, and the name of the account was "campus edge" this is here in Nevada, but most states should have a similar program, since i am enrolled in the keep the change program both my accounts are free and i only had to deposit $25 for each, and there is no monthly fee as well. since i am in the keep the change program i.e. if i bought something for $9.25, and i used my debit card, they would round it up to 10.00$ (keep the change duh! lol), and put the 0.75 cents in my savings acct. and at a certain amt. , i get a check from them. which is pretty cool.

*only problem i had was my debit card, the camera wasn't working at the branch so they just told me to wait a week, until i got my debit card in the mail, and to bring it in after that, so they can take a picture and put a photo on my debit card. unfortunately, they dont put the DOB, on the card, due to the fact of people stealing and being fraudulent on cards, they try to limit the amount of personal info on each card, the bank said its just policy, and they can't do anything about it. he told me though its a great feature, b/c i have another form of picture I.D., so i encourage everyone to get one!!

I also use Bank of America. I have a checking and savings account with them, but as for the Keep the Change program they have, I don't. I was interested in the beginning until I found out that it was free for the first three months but after that they would only match 5 percent of whatever goes into your savings account, up to 250 dollars.

I don't have a photo on my debit card though. So they said to you if you wanted to add your photo on it, they could do it?

yea they told me that too, its only 5% which is ok, with me as long as the monthly fees are free, keeping the change at only 5% is ok, i didnt really mind that, i only was worried about the monthly fee and the min. deposit

When did you open your account? Because now, most of the major banks are asking for SSNs or won't open accounts for illegals. I assure you, I've tried all the big Cs

it was prob 5 moths ago, they looked at my passport and my student ID, and they prob thought i was an international student. So they didnt say much. i think internatnional students dont have an actual SSn unless they work, so you can try and tell the teller that.

thanks, Ed, I got a question. Are you able to do online checking for free? I went on the BoA website and found out that you get free online checking as long as you open the account online. I might be wrong. I got WAMU but want to get a BoA account just for the ID.

The top option. You are right, they call it online banking. I meant ask if there is a monthly maintenance fee if you open your checking account in person. Or, if you do open it in person , are you able to access it online.

Get MyAccess Checking®. Our most popular checking account is free when opened online.1

1MyAccess Checking® has no monthly maintenance fee when opened online. Other account related service fees still apply. Offer may be withdrawn or modified at any time.
