No, I think that they will lose regardless. But with CIR out of the way they would have a fighting chance specially for future elections, and there will be a shift on the issues people care about and they will be able to focus on economics issues more. Many didn't support CIR because put bluntly, the farther right wing of the party are angry rednecks, but there are other reasons, but mostly politics. But as the tone easy up, it is now far more feasible to see CIR passed than it was in 2007, when there were so many smears against immigration reform. The internet has allowed information to float freely and has helped so that people can be more informed and not be lied to by anti-immigrant propaganda.

Most mainstream GOP reps in favor of CIR until recently were very afraid of getting outflanked by a Tea Party candidate in the next Republican primary for the next election. Now that the Tea Party got a black eye from the gov't shutdown, these reps become less worried. I hope the Tea Party is stupid enough to initiate another shutdown, which should weaken their national image even more.

Well they do seem crazy enough.

I am not sure if I am remembering correctly, but I believe Ted Cruz stated on a TV interview after the CR passed, that he plans to lead his Tea Party into the next shutdown no holds barred, that he and his party are ready to stick to their demands and will do whatever is necessary.

This also sets up Boehner, as he may be screwed either way...for example

1) If Boehner sides again with the Tea Party and lets another shutdown happen, then his speakership is probably done (it may be done already too)

2) If Boehner lets another CR go through without complications, then the Tea Party may most likely shun him and not allow him the votes he needs to retain speakership...if the republicans even have the majority by that time...

Not because of CIR, but because of other misgivings more obvious to the general public.

House republicans can still win districts without Latino support. But national elections will become more difficult. Each year brings a slightly bigger impact.
