Chavez, Ahmadinejad to work against US

TEHRAN, Iran - The presidents of Venezuela and Iran boasted Monday that they will defeat U.S. imperialism together, saying the fall of the dollar is a prelude to the end of Washington's global dominance.

Monday's was Chavez's fourth time in Tehran in two years — a string of technical agreements and a torrent of rhetoric presenting their two countries as an example of how smaller nations can stand up to the superpower.

"God willing, with the fall of the dollar, the deviant U.S. imperialism will fall as soon as possible, too," Chavez said after a two-hour closed meeting with Ahmadinejad, the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.

As the dollar weakens, oil prices have soared toward $100 a barrel. Chavez said over the weekend at the OPEC meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that prices would more than double to $200 if the U.S. attacked Iran or Venezuela.

I agree with Iran and Venezuela.. Recently US told the President of Pakistan that he should step down as the commander in chief of Pakistan?! Who the hell is US telling other countries who should or who should not rule their countries?! Other countries dont tell Bush to step down as the commander in chief?! US should mind their own fn business.... Wait till China decides to switch to Euro's and Pounds, as Iran Pres said today, the dollar is a "worthless piece of paper"... And US is not going to attack Iran or Venezuela, because they dont want it anymore.. Iran will create hell for the US in the region if it dares

And they didn't tell Musharraf to step down for shits and giggles; they did it because he was calling off planned elections and there were going to be riots around Pakistan which would have aggravate the nation's problems all the more.

On a serious note, as a heterodox political economist, I do support a counter-hegemonic movement against US dollar imperialism. At the same time, Chavez and Ahmadinejad need to realize that any efforts to further cripple the US economy, would have widespread ripples and effects that would be to the detriment of a lot of underdeveloped countries. We live in much more globalized and interconnected world than before. Besides, are they so blind in nationalist fervor that they don't realize that poor, oppressed, marginalized people live in this country too? There's really no straight answers for these things... I can't deny the legitimacy of anti-American sentiments and at the same time I cannot support this sort of ridiculous short-sighted approach by people like Chavez. Anyway, he is just barking. America should be smart and start investing and patenting alternative energy at rapid speeds instead of focusing on acquiring oil reserves by overthrowing sovereign governments. This country's foreign energy dependency is a tremendous weak point that other countries can exploit to their benefit.

I was reading Noam Chomsky's "Rogue State" and the US really doesn't play by international laws when they get involved in other countries' affairs. I can understand why Iran and Venezuela would want to cripple this country's economy but when it comes down to choosing a side, I'm choosing the imperialistic US. If America wasn't imperialistic, wouldn't it give other hostile countries a chance to commit another genocide against the American people?

And who the hell is France?! When Muslims were burning down cars in Paris a year ago...Bush and Pakistan didnt tell Chirac, ohhhh how bout you have some elections soon to calm the situation down?! I dont remember once Pakistan telling other country on what they should or should not do (Well maybe India) but they are neighbors, US and Pakistan are thousand miles away...

US should worry why a Chinese Submarine appeared in the middle of their Navy exercise.. As one former military official put it "US Navy got owned, by one small Chinese Submarine that was never detected till it appeared in the middle of two US Navy Ships"

France and the US are basically choosing the best of two evils by siding with Bhutto and trying to get Musharraf to not cancel the elections.

Using your logic, the proximity of Pakistan and India should not matter since every country should have the sovereignty to decide their own affairs. Right?

Chirac wasn't trying to cancel elections; Musharraf is. That's the BIG difference. You can't compare apples and oranges.

I hope you don't turn into an extremist that's out to wreak havoc on the country later on... I think the US pissed off Bin Laden decades ago. And besides, not all lawmakers are bad. Durbin is a good guy, right? Don't be anti-US!
