Hello to all,
I just wanted to know if anyone that has gotten approved is living on their own... Like someone who has their own apartment or their own house... I would appreciate any stories, like how much you pay, did you have a cosigner, your age and of course the experience, is it better than the life you had before living with someone else. I would love to know...

Oh wow, well that is so good to know, I definitely feel more hopeful now. Did they give you a hard time to get the apt, because of your status, and are you in Texas by the way because that is where I am trying to move to.

I pay around $1000/month. I live close to campus and had to have a co-signer since they required income greater than I believe 4 months of rent. I've always had my own place while going to school and it's definitely bliss. My friends have roommates and the sweetest people get into arguments with each other while living together. Management didn't give me a hard time and I actually did all the paperwork over email without even looking at the property.

I moved out before DACA was released so at first, my parents had to co-sign my apartment in Chicago. That was $695 with all utilities included and I applied for it online since I was in FL at the time; the first time seeing it was move-in day. After getting a job and building credit, I moved to an apartment in the 'burbs close to Chicago - $750 with parking and most utilities, I just have to pay for electricity. I was 22 when I made the trip and I currently live with my bf. He doesn't have work (still a student - finishing up his CS degree!) but thankfully I have a decent paying job so we could afford it. Parents are still helping with my bachelor's degree though.

P.S. The 695$ was a studio in Rogers Park and the 750$ is a one-bedroom apartment.

Nowhere near living on my own.

Starting my college years, so I need to reduce as much expenses as I can.

I live in San Antonio, I did not need a co-signer because i make around 4 times the rent amount so i was not required to have one.

I've lived by myself for about 10 years now and I don't have DACA. I also help pay for my mother's house. I finally moved despite the much extra cost of paying for two places because I was a grown-ass man and needed my privacy and to live closer in town so I wouldn't kill myself commuting after several accidents (which may or may not have been my fault). Mostly though, it's because it's really hard to get laid when you live with your mom and I wanted to have my own life green card or no green card. Girls don't give a shit that you pay for the place and when you're in your late 20's or 30's, nothing screams "loser" more than a guy who doesn't live alone.

Turns out when you're in your late 30's, girls aren't impressed and ask "why haven't you bought a house yet?" "Because I don't have $500,000 and don't want to live in a $120,000 house in the suburbs" kind of shuts them up but then my apartment isn't exactly a luxury apartment so there you go. My neighbor gets laid a lot though so apparently it's not the apartment.

Getting the apartment was not too hard...in the old days they'd just call your employer to verify your income, but now days they want pay stubs and such. I also had a DL and SSN so that helped. Unfortunately, I had a feeling I wouldn't have my DL for much longer so I wanted to make sure that I would be near a bus stop and in a more urban area if I had to go without a DL for a few months. It's kind of laughable now but my family sponsorship was moving along so fast that I thought my priority date would be up to date by 2012. At this very moment, it's 4 years from now which is more like 6 years.

Anyway... best advice - make sure you go to an apartment that has access to the internet. Some apartments only have DSL or Cable but not a choice for both. Some have a contract with a weird company. Also, get 2nd floor or higher so you don't get flooded and the chance of getting robbed is lower. Check for shopping carts- the more shopping carts in the parking lot, the shittier the apartment. Mine has zero

Mine has zero shopping carts AND there's a grocery store withing walking distance, also around a school so no sex offenders haha I cannot stress how important it is for you to be financially smart having your own place i feel its a HUGE responsibility I was fortunate enough to have had 4 months of bills saved up and I originally only signed a 6 months lease to test it out.

At 26 i also needed to move out of my parents house i did not originally planned to move to a whole new city but the timing of the new job offer was perfect.
