In my case:
Approved on Wednesday March 19th 2013, EAD arrived Saturday March 23rd, applied for social security on Monday March 25th 2013, social security card arrived in mail on Friday March 29th 2013.
You can tell if your EAD is in the system by reading the letter the SSA gives you. If it says two weeks that means that all checked out immediately. If it says four weeks that means that it did not and they need to submit a written request to USCIS.
