Heh, that's a good question and the short answer is that you can't.

Ironically our status doesn't matter on this one, all insurance plans are fairly expensive. Being illegal simply means that we can't benefit from some plans for poor people but you have to be REALLY poor to get free healthcare.

Let's hear some feedback from other people. What state are you in and are you a minor or adult? Maybe someone here knows of some plan I'm not aware of.

Are you in school? There should be some sort of plan available to students (maybe based on how many credits you are taking).

Even student plans are incredibly expensive (more than public school TUITION here in New York!). Basically you're talking about a bill of several hundred dollars a month for the cheapest plan.

I believe status is not an issue when getting health insurance. You just purchase it like you would any other service.

some public universities offer health insurance for their students. see if your school offers a plan and if you are eligible. The coverage isn't comprehensive but it'll cover the annual physical.

Other than that, we are only eligible for private insurance. Almost all public health insurance programs don't accept undocumented persons.

If you're young and healthy. You can get plans for around a $100/month. This includes office visits (still have co-pay) and Rx (still have co-pay).

Uh-oh did I get lucky going to school in California with mandatory health centers in colleges and universities? They treated me for everything from a sprained ankle to pneumonia...

I get health insurance... It's cheap too. But I'm under 21 so maybe that's why I'm allowed to get insurance.
