Hey guys I feel greatly disappointed at this moment. I just found out that my job will require me to be at least a permanent resident to be eligible for advancement. What are the chances that in the next 2-3 years something happens in congress that I will somehow be eligible to be a "permanent resident"
I know the current dream act bill that is stuck in congress will give us provisional resident status. But that won't cut it.
Any ideas ? I am 21. Arrived at age 7

I'm fairly sure that they are not legally allowed to limit jobs to LPR/USC only unless the job requires handling classified materials, working for government, or being in a "position of public trust."

There is no bill stuck in congress, only the Senate one but thats long dead. It all comes down to what job it is exactly. Now you said for advancement meaning the current position does not require that. What job exactly is it?

Chances are very slim. Try and get a job that does not require that. I am an Engineer and many jobs in my field require green card or citizen. I was lucky to get end up with a full time job.

Just keep looking, I know you can find other companies.

some requirement even for the slight chance of the company working for the USA government. Interesting enough, when I worked at Intel, my position required PR or USC since the department I was hoping to entered was under the overview of some government program (military i think) but the recruiter (the person who first talked to me when I graduated from school) talked to some people and I was offered a different position with similar job task just with out that part of needing PR or USC. So I suggest you talk the company and see if maybe there is another opening for one that doesnt require PR.

I think most military companies require PR no exceptions, Boeing ect

As a tip, made sure to ask questions regarding eligibility with DACA discreetly, you know want to be half way done with the application progress only to find our the job really does require PR status but most position will be very clear about it

I don't get these posts, we're no forecasters. You know this is only temporary. Why are you getting upset.

Get married.
