I know most of us already have drivers licenses through daca, but for those who aged out and who live in California, this new bill would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers licenses beginning January 1st.

The twist is that there will be a rather indiscrete marking on your license that basically says you're "illegal". The license is also for driving purposes only, therefore you would be unable to use it as a valid form of government id to get a job, open a bank account, board an airplane, etc. Also, I'm skeptical about how that will play out if you were to get pulled over by a cop... A little sketchy if I do say so myself. Because let's face it, this seems like another way to treat us like second class humans.

Here's some info on the DMV website.

http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/ab60/

I would have given my first born for an opportunity to drive before daca (especially during college and high school), and was just WAITING for something like this to happen. And then DACA happened. I wonder how many ppl will take this opportunity.

I think regardless of a marking or not it's great, when I was 18 I was really happy that I was going to get a license but to see we got screw over when they did the recall, but I'm happy that AB 60 will finally happen

It's so small, though, that people will hardly notice. As long as bouncers don't give you grief when you're trying to go out with your friends, it's no big deal!

I'll stick to my DACA license for now, though.

Just out of curiosity and for those who also have a license through DACA, would you consider maybe changing it to this type of license? I believe it has the same length of validity as the "regular" licenses do (meaning not the 2 years that we have).

I would not - there's a chance I might get the 5 year one again anyways.

I'm thinking about doing this. Do you think we can get the "Federal Limits Apply" removed after we get our DACA(For those who aged out and arrived between June 2007 and Jan 1, 2010)
