So last year around this time i applied for a store credit card and got denied, did not think much of it because my social security was so new that i thought that must have been the problem, i just thought to give it time maybe a whole year then apply for other cards in the future. Last month i applied for both a Discover Card and also a Chase card and was denied for both. Now i was starting to get worried and called up both companies at their Recon Numbers (some one should make a thread about this topic its very informative and could help out a lot of people) and was told that i was denied because i had no credit history (ok i know i dnt whats new) but also that there was no record of my social on file with the three major Credit Card Bureaus, (also another interesting topic that someone should post a thread about).

At this point in freaking out thinking ok whats wrong with my credit, i know i should have something on file, so i go and check my credit score and all three credit bureaus can not find or match my identity to the social security number. I was instructed to send in documents to verify my identity and match my social to it aswell. I am currently waiting to hear from them.

I just hope that i can get this problem resolved and start building my credit, im not in a rush to jump into debt or see how many cards i can get approved for, i just want to start off. I think it would be a good idea to check with the credit bureaus to see if they have the correct information on file or if they even have a record, this may be one of the reasons a lot of you are unable to get any type of credit or loan? Just wondering if this had happened to any of you.

There can be a "lock" on your reports until you verify your identity. And since you got denied for no credit, this explains why you had an empty report. (If you were denied for some other reason, there would have been an inquiry on your report). My advice is for you to open a secured cc after verifying your info

That sounds very odd. I had a bank account before DACA started (my parents set me up a savings account when I was 10) but two months after getting DACA and had my SSN, I set up my own account and applied for a credit card. It was not a hassle even though I had no credit history.

Wait for their response first before you do anything else. Also, I recommend that you do not get credit from stores. They are a terrible way to build credit and their fees are so ridiculous that it will end up hurting your credit. I recommend only getting credit from your bank and no one else.

Firstprogress.com is how I started. They approve anyone. You just need a deposit.

This is what I did two years ago.
Canceled it because it had zero benefits and an annual fee.

Never received my remaining deposit back, albeit it was $10

But they do report to all three agencies.

Its a nice start. After you establish some credit, you can cancel and get other cards.

Thnx so much guys. Yes, i agree wont be getting any store cards, it was just an impulse back then. Ive researched and got a pretty good understanding of how credit works and how to mange it. I will not be applying for any regular credit cards i plan on doing a secured card, i looked into that as soon as i was denied by both banks. The thing is even when applying for secured cards you will still get an inquiry on your credit report and that will count as a hard pull, its just as risky because you can also get denied for those as well (read a lot of threads of ppl having this problem). I hope i dont have to apply for too many tho, i will defiantly be looking into first progress to see what they have. Just make sure you guys are also careful when closing down credit cards no matter if they are secured or not especially when you have had it for a while because creditors look down on that when looking at your history. Its best to just keep old cards and charge very little and just keep revolving credit on those cards. Best of luck to you guys, hope all of you build your way to excellent credit

Lol I recently tried to get a plan with Tmobile and they couldn't find me even with almost 2 years of credit history. I even have like 7 credit cards. My highest is about 3000. Total credit limit of about 12k.

I've been denied like 5 different credit cards, the first time I applied for Wells Fargo, when my ssn was new, they denied me right away... then I applied for Capital One in person at the bank, they approved me with $49 deposit they gave me 200$ credit limit, my very first credit card. I've maxed it out every month, and pay every cent when is due, that has built me good credit, my credit started showing up at the first 4 months with 722. When my card was like 5 months old or so, I applied for another Capital One credit card, I was defined, and they placed a hard "request" on my record, the same day I applied for a Discover Card, I also was defined there, and they also placed a hard request on my credit report. I didn't know about the hard requests until the showed up - this brought my credit score down to 706 ( from 722). Last couple of weeks, I applied for a Wellsfargo Credit Card, just for kicks, but at the moment my bank account balance was sort of low, and that was the reason the denied me, but they didn't place a hard request on my record. In the month of September my credit score went up to 720 ( from 706 ), thanks to my good credit history conduct of paying everything every month. Last but not least, two days ago, I applied for a American Express Credit Card, and was approved, which I should be getting about next week or even this week. This is new territory for me, but I am guessing once I have my AMEX card, and make responsible usage with it, I am set .
