I actually got 2 of them, I applied like 2 or 4 months after my 25th birthday. 3 months before my 26th birth and I still had not gotten it, so I applied for a new one because I was worried that the first one was some how lost or never got processed. Next thing you know, I ended up getting 2 different selective service cards, like about 1 mouth before my 26 birthday. So I suggest you apply with some time ahead, because there is no exact telling how long it will take.

Wow!
How long ago was this?
Did you put a social down? Same mailing address? Spelled your name same way?
That's nuts. For something they make such a big deal of you think they would be better at maintaining records.

I never received one. Maybe I need to do it again. Are the benefits worth it?

Yes you need it to get financial aid. It's also necessary for other gov backed things and even in some states you need it for a drivers license. You could never hold a gov job if you don't register. You have to do it before 26 but should apply ASAP. Can't register after 26.

Don't worry about a draft. It's highly unlikely and even if you did you could always be a desk jocky. Or fake depression and asthma and get DQed.
