OK maybe this was mentioned before, but I haven't been keeping track of posts lately so I need to ask something... Why are some people saying that the government is going to make "real ID's" and DL's won't be valid anymore unless you present proof of legal status in the US? does anyone know anything about that?

They mean REAL ID which is an approved congressional plan for a national ID card. REAL ID would replace current driver's licenses and so on as the only document admissible in the "state ID" category and allow travel to US and Mexico with just this one document. It would however require US citizenship for travel and legal status for issuance.

The whole thing is a nightmare, more so for citizens than for us. It has serious problems with identity and government monitoring and a number of states already passed legislature opposing it. It's not gonna happen. The whole big deal was because New York was going to put it in effect next year but this was scrapped.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up for me, I was surprised nobody had mentioned that here, or maybe I missed it.
