I recently got laid off and wont get hired back until march. I was thinking of claiming unemployment benefits as this will allow me to concentrate completely on school, but can we even get those benefits to begin with? According to my supervisor, its me and the company who pays for unemployment so he didnt think it would be a problem for me. I was looking at the unemployment website of the state I live in and it only asks for a social security and a Alien registration number. Should I do it or man up and get a part time job somewhere? Would this be looked upon by immigration as being a public charge?

Nevada. According to the NV UI website its funded through employer contributions so I dont think it counts as government benefits. I also checked the USCIS site and it does not consider UI compensation as a public charge.

Yes you can. I did. I live in GA. Hell I even got a letter from the social security administration showing how much I can get from disability if I go disabled today.

What are the requirments for getting unemployment? the only reason I ask is cause my job is firing people because of budget cuts and I'm taking precaussions since I have been "talked too"

He's not asking for handouts, he put that money into the system. I'm sure he has bills to pay, and it would be irrational not to claim benefits that you qualify for, especially if you paid into them.
