Hi guys,
My friend lives in california and he is undocumented. and just recently he got a letter from DMV to renew his DL, but he doesn't have any proof of stay nor SSN. He's parents just passed the citizenship test but it will take long to process the case, i guess. Anyway is there anyway that he could renew the license without SSN or any proof of residency?

^Probably not. Check your state's DMV website for the actual requirements.

If your friend doesn't have any proof of SSN or Stay then it is certainly not a good idea to try to Renew the license.California is one of the States on track to implement Real ID requirements.

^ Correct, there is only a slight problem. According to the DMV you must get a new CA license within 10 days if you establish residency or get hired here. So technically you would be a visitor while you still had your New Mexico license.

I wonder if that rule is enforced.

Edit: In case anyone was wondering, I tried applying for a license a long time ago with my long expired EAD and....no cigar. I have an SSN, but if your EAD isn't valid you get zip.

Wait, are they asking for his SSN? My dad got a letter too not long ago, but it only asked for him to sign that all of his information was still accurate (name/address/etc). He sent back the letter in the envelope they provided and the license arrived.

Also, I made a friend here in Los Angeles this past year and he said he moved to Los Angeles from Texas ONE YEAR AGO and was driving this whole time with his Texas license. Up until recently he decided to stop being lazy and went to the DMV to get his California one.

You know what, I wrote this whole reply to this thread then saw that the person asking this question has only one post. Now I feel like I'm revealing myself, possibly to the wrong people. Sorry, I retract my reply.
