Hi Everyone,

I am currently in California but may need to travel to Arizona (near glendale). I was told it would only be about five hour drive....but I was worried about making the drive across a state boundry. I have been able to travel to Las Vegas without problems in teh past, but I the drive to Arizona be any different?

Any boarder agents patrolling the highways?.....any check points along the way?

I would really appreciate any and all input that you all may be able to provide!

Thanks again!

It really depends on what freeway you take. There's a checkpoint on FWY 8 before you hit Arizona, and there's a lot of ICE along the way since it's close to the border. My parents [who are legal] got stopped when they went to Arizona for Christmas but weren't asked for ID or anything.

My sister took FWY 10. There's less ICE and no checkpoint, but sometimes they set up an impromptu checkpoint on the border between states.

It's always a gamble to go to Arizona, but my family hasn't had any problems. If you do get stopped, just stay calm because nervousness is a dead giveaway that something's amiss. Good English and politeness are key in such cases.

Hi mariob,

Thank you for the quick and informative response!

So with no checkpoints along FWY 10, I guess that would be my best option. Are there other routes, perhaps through other states, that may be a safer route?

Also, have any of you looked into grayhound as a means to travel to arizona? In fact, are there any other, safer options besides having to drive down and risk running into a checkpoint?

Thanks again for the info everyone....it really is appreciated!

I live in Arizona; I was never asked for my ID even though I have a valid visa and 1-90 permit. You'll be fine.

Hi jfanii,

I appreciate the response....Thanks!

Do you ever make trips out to California? If so, it would be great if you would share which route/hwy you took and....well....just any and all experience/input would be awesome!

Thanks everyone
