I wanted to get an internship for the summer but I'm having a hard time.

Getting past the application process is practically impossible. The question that usually disqualifies me is the "are you a citizen or permanent resident?".

I'm a mechanical engineering student and my dream is to end up in the aerospace industry, specially DOD stuff (pretty much giving up on this though).

I applied to a couple aerospace companies, I think all of them rejected me from just the application alone. Recently though I applied to basically anything that was mechanical related but still no luck.

Any advice for me? For those of you who got internships/jobs with daca, how did you do it?

I feel like this is a waste of time and money if I can't do what I love. ITAR restrictions can fuck themselves lol

aerospace industry

yeah forget about it, you need USC or at least PR for these jobs are they work directly with the government.

As stated previously, I would not recommend you pursuing aerospace industry. A lot of these jobs require USC because you work with federal government contracts. You are mechanical engineering, so you have other options.

I sometimes find postings that don't require a security clearance. I applied to one for a private business jet company and made it past the first round but they never contacted me about an interview. They said they would. Kinda bummed out.

I recently found one for a propulsion department and it didn't require a clearance either. Hope I at least get a call

Try contacting them, being a minority "helps" us.

Being a minority does not help us when these companies work directly with the government and require USC status

I'm a mechanical engineer, you say you want to work with DOD but that is going to be impossible. Don't waste your time and apply to other industries. Your best luck is in the oil and gas industry, Car industry, and other. Trust me i tried a lot of aerospace but i never got a call back. Try and get meaningful experience and skills in other industries. Experience and skills such as CAD, FEA, and CFD. these skills will help you apply to aerospace industry when you get your green card or us citizenship.

My only chance is to hopefully meet a USC and marry them so by the time I graduate I at least have a green card. But I doubt it.

But, yeah. Oil and gas sounds nice just because the pay is well

I second this. Study like crazy, get a high GPA, get intern experience, and practice your people skills/network. I am a mechanical engineering senior. We are very lucky that most of the sectors are doing really well right now and most companies are expanding.

Sounds like a plan, but don't limit your options. By last October I had five full time offers (not at the same time). All were in very different sectors.

What do you want to work in the most? Right now my second choice would be something related to mechatronics
