Hello fellow dreamers,

I would like to get some tips for a trip I am planning to make with my family to the Grand Canyon from Texas in Late September of this year.

I have been fortunate to get DACA, find a job, and start to feel like I am living a little bit of a normal life. My parents are undocumented and so have no ID, only their foreign passports. I would really like to share my success with them by taking them on a plane trip and visiting the Grand Canyon. They have not been on a plane in 15 years so I know they will be very afraid, especially since they are undocumented. However, I am determined to help make this trip as worry free as I possibly can.

On that note, here are my questions:
1) Given Arizona's climate on the news, is it safe for us to land in Phoenix with just foreign passports as identification?
2) I have a Temp Texas License, so I will be driving. I would like to drive to Sedona and then to the Canyon. Anybody make that drive, and do I have to worry about any checkpoints/danger areas?
3) Finally, any tips on visiting Grand Canyon with parents in their 60s/70s? Or in general, which section would you recommend?

Thank you for reading my post and taking the time to reply.

I would also like to know the best route (by car) which does not have immigration checkpoints from Houston to the Grand Canyon. Anybody have any ideas?

checkpoints are within 100 miles of the border so stay the hell away from El Paso.

Honest question, why should we be afraid of checkpoints? Couldn't you just use your work permit and DL to get by? We are not entering the country, just driving by.

Maybe I'm missing something.

It's true that we're protected by DACA but our parents aren't. Border patrol is notorious for detaining people (even U.S Citizens) until they verify their immigration status. We shouldn't be afraid to be detained, but it is a significant risk to our relatives not protected

That ^. I would like to take my parents on a road trip this summer. They do not want to fly so I am thinking of places I could drive.

You don't have to wait till September to go on a little day trip to Austin. It's beautiful this time of year. Take them to Mt. Bonnell...it's kind of like the Grand Canyon except there is a river and rich people houses under it.

Lol, thank you for the suggestion but they have driven to Austin several times. I want to take them somewhere by plane.
