Hi everyone,

*I've titled the post Dental/Medical School because both types of schools are in a similar, if not the same category of professional schools*

I've long contemplated about going for dental school and have decided to do so. The reasons this decision took long to make is because
  1. There's the chance DACA will be eradicated, leaving us screwed after years of investments
  2. Not many schools were open to DACA students. Only recently have schools opened their gates

For those who have succeeded in matriculating or graduated, what were some obstacles you faced? Financing your education is probably the biggest problem. Did you take out private loans? If so, which are the best? Are you have trouble getting licenses? What happens if the political climate changes and we're stripped of DACA?

I've long spent too much time just worrying and not acting so I am just going for it. But, if anyone can shed some light, it'd be very helpful...

Also, does anyone from NJ know if medical or dental students are eligible for the DREAM act?

Do you of which dental schools allow DACA students to apply/matriculate (even if it is as an international student). Also, which dental schools don't consider applicants as an international student, if you know? Thank you.

  • Here's a list of medical schools that accept DREAMers.
  • You can also connect with other DREAMers who have attended or are currently enrolled in medical school here.
I have yet to attend (planning to apply within the next year), but financing has been the main issue. However, Loyola in Chicago has been assisting DREAMers with financial aid and private loans from the state of Illinois. I believe the only stipulation is that you have to agree to work in an under-served community for a specific amount of time.

Not necessarily. One of the available loans have that stipulations, but not all of them. You don't get to choose which one you get though.
