I enrolled at my local community college (Lone Star) earlier this month. I've now signed up for my classes and it's showing me my cost for the semester (4 classes)... $473 per class. For my friends, who are citizens, it's only $200 per class. Why do I have to pay more than double? I live less than 10 minutes from the campus and have lived here for more than 2 years. According to the Lone Star tuition chart, I'm being counted as a International/Out-of-State student. Is this the case with all DACA students? I am going to be paying the cost of 2 semesters just for 1 semester and that just feels like a load of bs. Anyone else in the same situation who managed to get something done about it?

Yup, I had to pay out of state tuition as well when I was in community college (about $1500 for 4 classes). It definitely was and is bull cause I am in the state living here for 5 years, but they wouldn't budge even when I showed them a warranty deed.

I think you would need to have attended high-school in that state, and then you can pay in-state tuition. You can try and ask the admissions office about proofs you can submit for residency purposes.

That is ridiculous .

I attended high school in this state & graduated this year in June. I'm going to try and go to the admissions office on Monday to hopefully sort it out. Thank you for sharing your experience!

They recommended me 4 classes for full time so I chose those. How many are you doing and which state?

texas offers instate tuition for undocumented students if you graduated from a texas high school under HB1403. ask your admission office for an affidavit you can sign to get in state tuition. I received in state tuition at HCC some years back.

I can only be a part time student, which is 6 hours. each class is 3 hours. If I become full time my tuition goes up to double of regular. So this semester will be $418. So only two, for now. Of course plus books. My course is 5,520.00 but since I have to pay out of state tuition, it'll be 16,322.00. ): And I've lived in New Mexico since I was 3.

My community college in CT allowed undocumented people to attend. So after HS I went there with a full-ride scholarship. After I graduated, I couldn't go to a 4-year university because I would be paying out-state tuition. In-state tuition was 11k a semester.

Because of that, I stayed 1 and half in the community college taking extra classes that would be transferable and for fun (out of pocket) while working part-time.

Then Malloy passed the local dream act and as soon as that went into effect, I went straight into the 4 year university and graduate with a B.S. in EE in 2 years and half.

In conclusion, I feel your pain. It sucks but the law is there to ensure in-state students get a access to state schools rather than people from outside. Unfortunately, the local government sees you as an outsider.

Same here.. it happened to me before when I applied to Lone Star college first time, even though I have graduated from high school in TX. You should talk to the adviser, tell them about your status and they will re-classify you under in-state resident. You have to get an affidavit with notary public to prove that you've been in TX for 36 months prior to high school graduation and continuous living in TX for xx years etc. I remembered it costed me like $800/class first time for out-of-state/international student, since I didnt know how to change to in-state tuition I then switched to HCC. The adviser there helped me through the process and got me in-state tuition which was much easier than at Lone star.
