I will be graduating university in a year and I have been applying for summer internships and a lot of the applications and interviewers ask if I will need sponsorship.
What have been your experiences when applying for internships/jobs?

No sponsorship needed. Just use your ead for i9.

If asked, you do not require sponsorship. That is the H1B visa category, which we are obviously not under.

In my experience (and I'm sure this is the same almost everywhere), they ask you this question when you're filling out a job application (or a job offer) for the company. You're dealing with HR on this, so your direct managers will not know anything about it. It's rarely a question that's asked in an interview.

For me, it's been: apply->interview->get offer->Communicate DACA status to HR in the hiring paperwork.

Whatever you do, do not bring it up. Never tell potential employers that you have DACA, or that you just have an EAD.

I had a bad experience with internships. Large companies are able to deny you on the first day of internship.

This happened to me. I had already signed a lease for the summer and if fucked me over. Luckily I was well connected and I was able to find another opportunity next day.

For full time first job out of college, that question will be asked a lot. For the purpose of full times jobs, you say say that you do not require sponsorship. If they ask you, "Are you allowed to work in the U.S in a permanent basis." You say, yes.

If you are extended an offer. As long as the job does not require security clearances, which if it does, it will be made clear that you need U.S Citizenship on the application. Then they cannot refuse to employ you based on having an EAD.

I have worked for large companies, who if they find out, they will retract the offer.

So, always say, No Sponsorship, and yes you can work permanently.
