Hi guys,

My work permit will expire this Sunday Oct 9th. I informed HR two weeks ago and they said that I present them with the USCIS letter stating that is being processed so they can show it to their immigration lawyer.

The lady at HR said that as long as they have old permit and the notice I showed them, it would be fine. But she yet has to confirm.

I have not been contacted by HR yet. But I am wondering if there is anyone here whose employer still allow to continue to work with the expired work permit with notice of renewal?

I think one of my friends has a very similar case.
Her work permit expires sometime in this month and she hasn't received her new one yet.
The HR told her that they would actually let her work until she has hers renewed.
I guess she has to show her application processing as a proof though.
I am not sure how it will affect her immigration status along the way since working with an expired permit will hinder you adjusting your status later on (or that's what I've been told, at least).

Technically you're not allowed to, especially since (a screenshot, receipt notice, etc) is not an acceptable form of evidence for your I-9. Depends on your employer whether or not they are willing to make an exception.

My HR contacted me two months ago as a reminder to renew my work permit. Tomorrow I expire and I haven't heard from her yet.

Reading this thread has put me at somewhat ease knowing its possible HR might understand this and work with lawyers to determine if its okay to let someone work. My EAD expires around Oct 18th. Biometrics was done on August 3rd. I plan on walking straight to HR and letting them know. I work for the state.

I've been working with expired EAD since Sept 25. I have them a notice and a notice from uscis from infopass that they willing to print out to show to my employer that they haven't reached June app.

I just got my biometric appt after 118 days. I'm waiting for the mail so I can walk in and speed the process up by submitting obdusman after.

It just looked that my HR doesn't really pay close attention to it but it depends on the employer I guess.

My problem is not my company. I'm a crucial asset for them, it will take months and lots of training to have me replaced. No one asked for my 1st renewed EAD, which I got on time, when my original EAD expired so I'm expecting that trend to continue next year when I file my 2nd renewal.

My problem is breaking the law because it could have consequences in the feature when I adjust my status :/. But I'm hopeful USCIS will have their shit together by next year.
