I've been waiting for more disposable income to begin investing but now that Trump is Pres-Elect i am wondering if I should make the sacrifice and just open that accts at least. I'm planning to do vanguard for an IRA and also a stock portfolio. I'm also interested in commodities and indexes and bonds and even real estate but thats for later.

Who was it easy to sign up with? Etrade, scotts trade, optionhouse, etc? Any suggestion? Who've you as a DACA person had good experience with?

Have they asked for any ID or verification since you opened your accts?

I have my 401K with Fidelity. My IRA is with Vanguard. They are excellent. It wasn't an issue for me to open and fund the IRA. They didn't ask me for ID or anything like that.

Thanks for confirming vanguard for me. From my research i gathered it was a good choice but of course that was based on feedback from non DACA folks.

Any ideas abt trading platforms?

Awesome job for thinking forward and considering these things even during these turbulent times. Vanguard is awesome. I've had an IRA account there since 2013. Awesome indices and rock bottom fees. I have the following

401k: Trowe price
IRA: Vanguard
Stocks Trading: Robinhood
HSA: Discovery

They are all great and it's never too early to start investing. It's better to save a little bit early on then a lot later on. The magic of compounding. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have fidelity 401k and roth IRA. Their commissions are ridiculous for stock trades so I funded an account with interactive brokers instead. I'm moving my IRA w/them as well. It's cents per trade as opposed to everyone else out there.

My FSA is w/Payflex and it's a nightmare but that's what my employer chose for us and cant change it.

My hsa is with payflex too. @Ph34r91 I have never heard of robinhood. Ill look into them. Im looking for a trading platform with low fees and little hassle for DACA folks. We have to stay positive and make our plans regardless. What do you think would happen if millions of skilled educated workers were instantly removed from the work force? Pfft! Talk is easy when youre campaigning im sure until you actually sit in the big chair and realize its not so sinple. But just in case the man is mad im getting my ducks in a row. I wish id been able to acquire a house by now but with a car loan it wasnt feasible. But no worries ill acquire one soon enough.

Dreamerangel..... are you in NYC? Real Estate is what I have been involved with in the past couple years. Every market is different though which is why I asked if you are in NYC. I have 2 multi family houses. Completely tenant occupied. Much better returns than stocks.

I recommend you make your first property a rental property and go from there.

I am wondering the same. I have a good amount of cash saved up and need to invest... Market is saying we are in for a recession soon. Wondering if it is worth holding off.

Additionally, those with Roth IRA from Vanguard, any fund suggestions?

My company matches my contributions up to 6% in my 401k. I could have taken the liberty to individually invest into stocks, bonds, or mutual funds but I dont have the time. So I just put it in a Vanguard fund. Ironically, it's been doing great since Election Day.

I have a gut feeling however there is a recession looming in late 2017 or in 2018. If that does come, I may just open a cap one invest acct. If you can stomach strong volatility, you'll see a payoff 2-3 years after. Just don't cash out immediately, wait as long as you can
