Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Thursday gave assurances that Republicans won’t “pull the rug out from under” undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

Ryan was asked about President-elect Donald Trump’s comment in a Time magazine interview that the GOP is going to “work something out” for them while rescinding President Obama’s executive order that allowed them to stay in the U.S.

“We should have something that balances the concerns of all parties involved and make sure that we don’t pull the rug out from under people,” Ryan said at his final Capitol news conference of 2016.

The Speaker said the Trump transition team and House Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over immigration issues, would have more details about the timing and process of ending the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“I will defer to the people who are focused on this on a daily basis to make sure they get this policy right,” Ryan added, "so that we don’t have any kind of ugly disruption that people are concerned about.”

Trump had taken an aggressive stance against illegal immigration during the campaign. But in his Time “Person of the Year” interview published Wednesday, the president-elect appeared to soften that stance.

“We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud,” Mr. Trump told the magazine. “They got brought here at a very young age, they’ve worked here, they’ve gone to school here. Some were good students. Some have wonderful jobs. And they’re in never-never land because they don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Man I'm hoping it goes like that. They should not revoke DACA until they have a bill passed. Crossing fingers and everything else too.

Ugh, I know. Why can't they come out and say "We will not repeal DACA."

I believe they're going to end DACA for sure but how they are going to replace is still up in the air.

We are getting more support by the day. I guess Durbin and Graham were right about many congressmen not wanting to come out because of fear of repercussions... But now that the Donald spoke, they feel confident enough to come out and say they support it. I'm waiting for Rubio to flip flop too.

Btw, there are several republican senators and representatives that dont support amnesty, but they support DACA. Look at Joni Ernst.

I think this good news, I lawyer I follow on you tube (usually gives updates on pending legislation, USCIS issues, etc) has an opinion that now with Trumpy in Office they will be able to finally pass immigration reform. So I hope this keeps going, if Ryan and Trump are on board, now we just need Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel (this Mitch guy reminds me of a turtle).
