Anyone had an issue with your SSN coming up as invalid? Leasing an apartment and my SSN can back as invalid on the background check. So strange since I've not had any issues with background checks in the past, and I've successfully applied for DACA on three occasions with no issues. It's quite possible the number was entered incorrectly or perhaps my name was entered incorrectly. I plan on following up on this, but I just wanted to see if anyone encountered something similar.

Yes to both. No issues at all in the past and no changes to anything that would lead to an error. Wonder if it's a data error by the leasing agent.

It could be, I assume that the landlord is using a service that taps into your credit history. You should make sure they have the right information. Either that or he is using that as an excuse not to rent to you because of discriminatory reasons.

Was it by any chance issued around 2012? Newer numbers tend to do that. They may need to contact the SSA themselves to confirm or simply just look at your card. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Yeah, new numbers can act weird. Mine was issued in Oct 2012, after the randomization, and even before I had my first CC, I saw one of my landlords being able to pull it in the summer of 2013, some 6 months before I got my first CC. The company they used even retroactively added previous addresses that now show up in my credit file, even though none of those were originally reported (student complex + staying at a friends place), just because I put them down on the application form.
When I applied for that very 1st CC, I got denied and one of the reasons besides the usual no history, no rotating accounts etc part was a line saying invalid SSN, even though my landlord was able to pull it earlier.

I'd say try to follow up on it to make sure there were no typos; if the landlord gives you a hard time, you'll know it's because they don't want to rent to you.

Thanks, all. The landlord mentioned that the background checking company said it could have been because it was a recent SSN. I gave her a photocopy of my card, and it was all good to go.
