Question for those of you with professional jobs. In the worst case scenario that DACA gets terminated and we can no longer work, how would you guys tell your employer that you can no longer legally work? I have been very nervous to bring up anything regarding my status to my employer because there are too many republicans where I work.

Just tell em you lost your work authorization, they likely dont even know anything about it. Plenty of us have had to do it with the long renewals this time around. From what Ive heard, our EADs will probably still be good until they expire anyway.

Thank you! Yeah I rather not disclose anything to my employer. I really do hope we get to use it until it expires.

You don't tell them anything until it does expire. You say you would like to take a leave of absence until you can solve your working status.

You can always say you have 'personal reasons' for leaving. You do not even have to bring up work authorization if you don't want to.

I work for this fast growing construction management company in the Greater NYC.

My boss were somewhat aware of what DACA was, and once Trump won the election, I requested a meeting with him and told him exactly what my situation and chances were.

He was extremely supportive and even offer me financial and legal assistance depending of how things will work out in the future.

And the most surprising is that he is a Republican.
I feel very lucky to be part of his company.

This! You do not owe anyone an explanation.

Nice, lol. I know a few Republicans who have (very surprisingly) been supportive of DACA once you explain what it entails. Plus, it probably helps if you know the person and you tell them about your experiences on a one-to-one basis. It is kind of a risk though, you never know if they'll try and report you afterwards. (I mean, the Trump team already has access to our files so at this point whatever).

I think the only one that should really be made at least somewhat aware of your situation is the HR manager (if there even is one). For the most part, HR don't understand DACA. Just have to explain that you're authorized

Honestly I wouldn't trust HR either, they are there to protect the interest of the company not that of the employees. As DACA stands and I expect it to continue, all you need to present to them is your EAD which satisfies ALL requirements for the I-9 proving your identity and the fact that you are authorized to work in the US. Keep it short and simple folks.
