Young Edwin Romero was released Wednesday at about 1:30 pm, said Ramiro Luna, an immigration activist and organizer.

Romero had been arrested for failing to pay his traffic tickets, Luna said.

-

The DACA beneficiary was arrested by the Richardson police and according to the North Texas Dream Team, had an ICE order to be withheld, they wrote on their Facebook page.

Edwin Santiago Romero Escamilla, 26, was arrested Tuesday night, wrote in a post.

The US government has excluded DACA beneficiaries in their immigration directives and legally, young people may be in the country.

"Edwin has no criminal record and is a DACA beneficiary ..." said organizers of the North Texas Dream Team, a group that advocates for the Dreamers in North Texas.

Santiago Romero is a student at the University of Texas at Dallas and works for the Bucker Animal Clinic.

"He participates in his church, Casa del Alfaro and is an active volunteer of the North Texas Dream Team," said representatives from the North Texas Dream Team. Santiago Romero is also a current member of the Omega Delta Phi Fraternity.

Al Día asked the Richardson police what the reason for this arrest was. So far we have not received a response.
If you are arrested for even unpaid parking tickets, ICE will issue detainers, DACA benenficiary or not.

Wow, this a bit extreme but then again why would he not pay his tickets. Good news he was released!

This will become the norm!

Also, Iaunus, were they parking tickets or traffic tickets?

Hopefully dreamers learn to follow the law to the dot.

if you're living in red states this will happen often as the feds are forcing the local police depts to work with ICE. in blue states, you have more leeway on stuff like these..

Yes, I agree, it might even vary from police department to police department.

So from what I read, he was never deferred to ICE. He was released from police detention.

Can someone confirm this?

I read from another source that he was released after ICE refused to place detainer on him. Seems like overzealous police department.

If he has a traffic tickets and refuses to pay for it, the police department could legally issue a warrant against him. If a warrant is posted, then he could be arrested in his next encounter with the police.

It was dumb of him for not paying the traffic ticket!
