Ok so this story is gonna be a little long but it has to do with so many events that I consider bad luck but I want to get you guys' opinions.

Story 1: so first all of let's start with my dad. My dad is undocumented too but his parents are residents. His dad (my grandpa) has been a resident since he was a a teen, so if he would have naturalized before having my dad, my dad would have derived citizenship regardless of place of birth and then I would have gotten it too. Now my grandma, she is also a resident and she was pregnant with my dad here in the states, at the time, my grandparents got a permit to go back to mexico temporarily but they were going through rough times. If my grandma would have simply stayed here and not followed my grandpa, my dad would have been a us citizen then as result, me too.
Then when they decided to file his residency, my grandpa made some mistake when he filed with a "good" lawyer and nothing ever came about.

Story 2: My mom's maternal grandmother (great grandma) was a citizen but moved to mexico when she was small and never told anyone about it. When she died and my granpa (her son) found out, he tried to get citizenship from his mother but he needed witnesses and they had died around the time my great grandmother died. So that's another way I could potentially have been a us citizen. Another scenario was when some of my uncle's from my mom's side also wanted to "adopt"my mom to give her residency, but nothing came about either.

So my question to all of you guys is, are these stories where I could have been a us citizen but because of certain events I didn't, pure bad luck or just coincidences?

I've heard stories like these before. You are not alone. For example, my mother could've been American by birth, and my father could've been Canadian by birth as well.

Oh man, so many missed opportunities for me to become USC as well.

I came to the US when I was 7.

My (much) older sister is a USC. Her husband could've adopted me and I would've been a USC by now, but he didn't want to go that route.

My mom became a USC (through my sister) when I was 21 1/2. Missed out on being USC by half a year lol.

A girlfriend offered to marry me to help me out, but then I decided to "do it right" and make things serious with her and that ruined the relationship so nothing there either :/

You can say it's bad luck or maybe you're not destined to adjust that way. I've thought the same, about having bad luck. Especially, since both my parents are USC and my siblings are now in the process of applying for their citizenship. In that aspect, I've been out of luck for most of my life. But I don't look at it that way, you know... "The coulda, woulda". I look ahead at my possibilities. I'm very blessed to have someone who's been in my life for almost 10 yrs now and helping me adjust. If I kept thinking of the past and how I could have adjusted, I would have missed out on a great opportunity.
