President Trump said Friday that undocumented immigrants who were brought illegally to the U.S. as children should "rest easy" and not fear deportation under his administration's efforts to ramp up immigration enforcement.

The president told The Associated Press in an interview that his calls to crack down on illegal immigration are focused primarily on removing criminals from the U.S. and are not geared toward the so-called "dreamers."

President Donald Trump says young immigrants shielded from deportation — often referred to as "dreamers" — should "rest easy" about his immigration policies.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Trump says he is "not after the dreamers, we are after the criminals." He says "that is our policy."

President Barack Obama changed enforcement priorities to protect many young people brought to the country illegally as children from deportation.

Attorneys say 23-year-old Juan Manuel Montes was recently deported to Mexico despite having qualified for deferred deportation. Montes sued Tuesday for access to records on his deportation.

Trump says Montes' case is "a little different than the Dreamer case," though he did not specify why.

Until a dreamer is stopped by some random immigration check on the street by ICE, that is.

I hope for my own selfish reasons that they extend this courtesy to non-DACA dreamers when it's time to adjust their status.

That shouldn't be an issue granted you aren't doing anything bad.

That deported DACA beneficiary didn't do anything wrong other than forgetting his wallet and unable to produce the EAD when ICE officers randomly stopped him on the street.

Once you get detained, they find you all kind of reasons to deport you, DACA or not.

Dude whats wrong with you . Monte clearly sign his deportation and voided Daca by going to Mexico with no AP. STOP Fear mongering!

He would have been good if he didn't sign anything ! I feel bad for the guy but you think he would be aware of who he is or at least read the topics on this forum. Stay inform people!

its not being sympathizers to the incompetent orange president.. its about being pragmatic.

if ya'll wanna continue to live your lives in fear, go for it. do you guys srsly leave your house to go to school/work constantly living in fear? damn thats miserable.

if that's the case, cut off your EAD's now and just stay home or self-deport.
