Ph.D in Canada?

Hi all,

Just a question, but has anyone with DACA entertained the idea of doing a Ph.D program in Canada? Has someone actually done this? I understand that there is a 3- or 10-year ban from returning to the United States, depending on time spent with unlawful status. The two requirement to study in Canada are to a) be admitted to a designated school and b) obtain a study permit.

The tricky part is obtaining the study permit, as you apparently have to demonstrate strong ties to your home country and "satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada after your authorized stay."

I don't know... thoughts?

Possible, you will be asked to go to your home country. Also you need around 30k to demonstrate you can pay for your program and sustain yourself. It's something I would consider without DACA. If you have DACA there is no point of moving right now.

Have you checked on the Express Entry program for Canada? I am guessing you have your Masters and hopefully some type of work experience. If so, you may be able to apply for a Canadian PR and study there as a resident
