Hi All,

Just getting a feel to see if the use legal representation affected your renewal time. Let us know if:

1. Used a lawyer and your renewal was approved within 120 days
2. Used a lawyer and still awaiting decision over 120 days
3. Did not use a lawyer but was approved within 120 days
4. Did not use a lawyer and still awaiting decision over 120 days

Thanks for your input.

i used lawyer twice. first lawyer took so long to mail. second, it took more than 120 days pretty much both times. third time i did my self and i was approved less than 1 month. i don't think that it has to do anything with lawyer because i saw few post where some guys getting approved quick and some taking longer.

No lawyer here. Always applied myself for myself. It has taken 2-3 months each time twice.

I currently work for a lawyer (know all of INA by heart, and my studied field is a crapshoot where everyone wants at least LPR and a lot of experience, so might as well), and let me tell you what happens when you hire a lawyer for simpler cases:

The case and all documents get handed to their paralegal. The paralegal fills out the forms, and will contact you directly or via the lawyer if there's any deficiencies in the documents. You come to sign in the forms, lawyer signs a G-28, and it all gets sent to USCIS. The law firm will respond to any RFEs you get however they won't be calling every single day to make sure your DACA gets approved, and even if they did - USCIS would just tell them the usual stuff - it's done when it's done.

You can't rush USCIS's decision aside filing a mandamus case and that's a long process all in itself, which is completely inapplicable in cases of discretionary relief - DACA, waivers, asylum, etc. USCIS can legally sit on them for as long as they want. In other cases you have to be really OUT of the normal processing time (like 3 years for a case that normally takes 6 months) for the court to even consider it.

I highly doubt hiring a lawyer will get you faster results. If anything, it's slower.

The first time I applied I consulted with a lawyer to help me answer two or three questions, I did pay a consultation fee but it was worth it as it helped me fill out the application properly.

But I did the rest myself and sent it in myself as well as my next two renewals. First time took nearly a year, second time only a few weeks and this third time a little over their regular processing times (see my timeline below).

If you have doubts on what to answer on a form I would ask for guidance with a lawyer, I also hear that there are a lot of "DACA work shops" around with lawyers, paralegals and other DACA recipients that help out for free.

Lawyers dont control or somehow influence USCIs on processing cases faster.
