ok so i live in Boston MA, and i have a roommate that doubles my age. i live in a basement and the whole house is occupied by different families in each floor. the area where i live is not the best however is not the worst. They are good and bad things about me living here. im going to point out all of them and im hoping to get feedback from whoever think is the right thing to do.

Things i love about where i live that the new apartment don’t have

rent here is only $400 a month
free internet
room a little bigger

Things i hate about where i live now that the new apartment has

roommates " my current roommate is like in his late 40s, he is a cook and fresh out the boat and our conversation goes only as far as, how was work?"
apartment size " the new apartment is a two level apartment with four bedrooms and i know all the people that live there and they all around my age 21-26"
no cell phone signal in the apartment i live now

ok so the new apartment rent is $500 for the room. The area where it’s located is call back bay, very close to downtown Boston and is consider to be high end. My job will also be a little closer compare to where i live now. My cell phone signal will work so i no longer will need t mobile hotspot at home to connect over VOIP with my cell. Northeastern U is also like two train stops from there when i go there next semester.

Drawbacks about the new apartment

need to give 3 months in advance $1500 by may 1st.
the apartment is in the 2nd and 3rd floor " not good for my mom that is on a wheelchair and might want to visit me"
Electricity is not included so thats another bill

ok so here is my conclusion

i am kind of bored where i'm living at. i feel like i need to be with people i can relate to. fun people that don’t mind losing 40 bucks in a texas hold'em game, like to drink and go out in the weekends, and that can introduce me to some sexy college chicks.

$1500 is somewhat of a concern to me in the sense that i will have to cut some of my expensives this month including helping my grandma and my mom financially.

other than that im leaning tours moving out and starting a new chapter in my life in boston.

what you guys think i should do?

Stick with the cheaper apartment. Moving out means you'll have to work full time in order to support yourself. Then there's school, too...

Well, if I remember correctly, T Mobile Hotspot is like 29.95 a month, right? So then you're only going to be paying $70 more for rent, which isn't so much.

You can't just consider the costs of the rent, though. I mean, do you pay for food where you live now? You'll have to pay more. There will also be utilities. And you'll probably want cable and internet.

Also, you said you're helping your family out financially. Will you be continuing to do that? Because that will make it harder for you, especially since, without your $400 of rent, they will probably need extra help.

Good luck, and I hope you make the right decision. I know it sucks. My family needed a lot of financial help after I graduated from high school, so I had to live at home and help support them for a couple years, and it sucked.

i know what you saying, i have to save up for my immigration process that will go through this year. but i think it won’t be more than $3,000 and i can get that by then.

well i don’t live at home, so i have a lot of bill regardless to be honest i did the math and i be paying 120 dollars more at month in everything; including bills

well the reason why i like this place so much is because is in the center of boston. Kind of like living in time square NY. i also got a doorman , and very nice restaurants and places to go from walking distance. and there is no way to find a room there for less than 800-900. The deal is that here in boston a law pass that no more than 4 students can live in an apartment together. As you may know boston is the capital of college students and parties can get little crazy. And this place had 5 roommates and they need it to go. so she is willing to let us in if we move as quickly as possible and give her three months in advance. the other thing is that peak season is coming up at work. so money should be good. Hopefully it works out.

I'd say move...as long as you know your budget will cover all the extras and utilities, plus is always good to have savings.
If you're not sure, then maybe you should just endure your boring apartment.

It sounds much more convenient for your student life though, and its closer to work.

I'd just stick to the old place... 120 dollars is still a lot when you're undocumented.

I say move- what's the point of living in a place where you don't feel content just so you can save money? I think you should live in a livelier environment where you don't have to sulk in misery about your status. Just my opinion. And judging by your posts, it sounds as if you have already made up your mind. You know you want to move, just do it! Just my opinion.
