Hello,

So I just got a new job offer at an engineering company, which I plan on accepting, but my EAD expires in Mid December. I have already sent in my renewal application. Do you guys think I should mention that at all? And just say that while it does expire in Dec, it is renewable.

I just don't want to run into issues where I give my 2 weeks at my current job, and the new company decides to rescind the offer once they realize that the EAD expires soon.

Or should I just not bring it up at all, unless they question it? I won't need to show my employment authorization documents until the first day of work.

Thank You!

Nope,

Do not mention it at all. Just first day bring it, and your SS.

What I would do, if I was you on this situation... is do not give 2 weeks at your current job in case shit hits the fan.

I know it is rude, but we live on the edge. Not our fault, just as a company would be evil enough to rescind an offer, I guess you have ways to protect your interests as well.

Some companies escort you out as soon as you give your notice anyhow... So the damage you do to a company for leaving is minimal. On the other hand, the damage that you can take by being unemployed is much greater.

So far, I had one instance in which I had to do this. It went well, the company I work for did not even mention anything about the EAD and mine expired like 2 months from my starting date.

My brother had a situation in which he told the company ahead of time, about the EAD, and the rescinded the offer on a heartbeat. It is hard to rescind an offer first day. It is also illegal. So, I would protect my interests, do not give a two week notice... and hopefully things go well at your new job.

Also, it is possible to schedule vacation time if you have it... on your current company.

nope, don't tell them anything. just take your cards and let them make a copies and stay quite. if they ask you that its going to expire and just in few words tell them new one should be here shortly and you will bring them as soon you get it. period.
you don't want explain them anything about status, procedure and waiting period nothing. more you explain worst its get.
thats how i did it with my job. i had mine about to expire within 3 months when i first started. first hr lady did not notice. then in the end she said oh its going to expire soon. i just said new one should be here shortly and i will give you copy. thats all. i know its not an easy they way I'm sound but guess what theres no other choice. less talk less problems. hope this will help

As your fellow dreamers indicated. You are good to go. They have copy of your card so they know.

If you keep keep working with an expired EAD, but your employer doesn't say anything, who's in the wrong?

Well, I think technically it does not matter, depends, if you worked before without a EAD you are fucked either way. Also, I guess if your employer finds out, you get fired for sure.

If you are looking to move on, then I say you don't loose much, if you are making 80k+ and it is a job you like, then talk to them and ask for leave of absence.

Once you show your EAD as proof of employment, they may ask or rescind your offer if they doubt you will re new your card.

It will depend on the employer and how they feel about work authorization cards.

Here is exactly what you do. First of all make sure you send in your renewal on time. You DO NOT bring it up yourself first. On your first day, they will make you fill up and sign the I-9 form. Just fill it up truthfully. Make sure you have your EAD on you because you'll need information from it. If they do ask you about it, just say that it will be renewed before that date. Believe me you'll be alright if you follow this. Good luck.
