Found this rather short video / article on Unvision about this DACA recipient who confronts the AG of Texas. Just thought it was interesting to share but it's not really news-worthy for The News Room

Quote:
"Why are you trying to deport me?" Asks a dreamer to the Texas Attorney General
A young DACA beneficiary, identified as Damaris, faced Republican Ken Paxton at a restaurant Tuesday, in a video shared by United We Dream. She questioned the prosecutor's decision to sue the government if she did not eliminate the immigration program.

Video: This DACA beneficiary faced Texas Attorney General Univision
An undocumented young woman publicly confronted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday by asking her why she gave an ultimatum to the federal government to eliminate the deferred action program (DACA) that currently protects her from deportation.

"My question is, why are you trying to deport me?" Asked the young woman, identified as Damaris in a video shared by United We Dream.

In June, Paxton warned Attorney General Jeff Sessions that he would sue the Trump government if he did not eliminate the DACA program before Sept. 5 in a letter signed by nine other Republican attorneys general and the Idaho governor.

DACA was established in 2012 through executive action by then-President Barack Obama. Since then, Republicans have denounced the program as an unconstitutional "amnesty" for not having been endorsed by Congress.

A similar argument was made in 2014 against another Obama immigration program, known as Deferred Action for American Parents (DAPA). This program was stopped in court with a similar lawsuit coordinated by Paxton's predecessor, Greg Abbott, now governor of Texas.

Paxton has threatened to reopen that lawsuit, which is still pending against Judge Andrew Hanen in the city of Brownsville, to threaten the DACA 2012 program this time around.

"I'm not saying that DACA is a good or bad idea. What I'm saying is that it's unconstitutional the way the president did it," Paxton said in the video released Tuesday.

This was the complete exchange between the prosecutor and the young woman:

DAMARIS: My name is Damaris and I am a beneficiary of DACA.

PAXTON: Wow!

DAMARIS: My question is: why are you trying to deport me?

PAXTON: I'm really just trying to make sure the President of the United States follows the Constitution and allows Congress to set the rules.

DAMARIS: Why are you trying to separate families like mine?

PAXTON: I'm not. I am asking the President of the United States to follow the law.

DAMARIS: Why are you trying to criminalize hundreds of thousands of young people like me? DACA has given security and stability to me and my brothers and sisters.

PAXTON: I'm not saying that (DACA) is a good or a bad idea. What I am saying is that it is unconstitutional the way the president did it. You can not create a law (as president). Do you understand? Do you understand the law?

DAMARIS: DACA has opened doors for me, to provide for my family.

PAXTON: What I'm saying is that you must understand that we have a Constitution, and if we do not follow the Constitution that would ruin our whole country.

DAMARIS: No human being is illegal. We fight for DACA and we want it and we will protect it, no matter what it costs

Very unproductive conversation... We have a legal argument. Even Democrats have not really brought up the legality of it lately. They make everything political.

I mean she's an activist for the United We Dream coalition of Houston and UWD is known for serving agenda, so her argument might be biased. She did do a decent job but I think she ruined it with those cliche statements though.

That was like two people talking to a wall. And the wall had a vacuum as the inside.

Seriously, couldn't this person asked the AG at question that he couldn't answer by saying "I'm trying to ask Trump to follow the law"

It pisses me off when people have this opportunity but ask questions not well thought. This is politics 101

Damn, what a good opportunity.

To be fair, I don't know if I would be able to hold down my emotions if I were face to face with a man who is trying to take away a vital part of my life.

But yeah, a counterargument to his responses would have been good. It kinda sounded almost as if it was scripted and she knew what she was going to say irrespective of the response.
