According to an article over at immigrateusa it appears TSA would usually call ICE or CBP for EWIs & Overstays.
Quote:
Immigration attorneys nationwide are reporting that individuals are being detained for immigration violations when trying to board domestic flights from many major airports in several states, according to the South Florida chapter of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

It appears that the arrests are triggered by TSA screeners, and not airport contractor employees, who are checking passenger identification at the entrance to security lines. AILA has heard that TSA increasingly calls U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement or CPB (who may then call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE) for questions regarding immigration status. Criminal aliens but also visa overstays and those who previously entered the U.S without inspection at a border are increasingly being arrested at airports and border posts, according to the AILA chapter.

How would they know that someone is an overstay? Unless you provide a foreign passport without an i-94, which is even 50/50 from what i hear, they have no reason to suspect you. If you don't have a valid gov id, don't fly.

For those of us lucky enough to have a valid DL, flying is just like taking a bus.

^ Are you flying with a DL or something else?

Also, is it a connecting flight where you just land/wait for new passengers and take off, or you literally have to change planes?

THANKS ALOT!!! Ianus, you saved my father. He was just about to go Orlando, Florida next week. He have an expired DL. But, he would have used his foreign passport with visa until 2011 which he overstayed. Now after reading this he is not going, have to cancel tickets. Thanks alot once again....god bless you.

I feel you stopped something miserable which was about to happen with us.

^expired dl isn't "valid" and they'll stop you to ask for an identification that's current.

How did he overstay a visa that's until 2011... you know this is 2008 right...

Yes, you are right, ofcourse expired DL isnt valid. He wasn't gonna show it neways. He would have shown his valid passport.

Expired I-94 means you have overstayed visa, in which you get 6 month entry. It doesnt' matter if on visa it says till 2011 or more.

What are the chances of someone being grabbed? I'm not asking for myself but there is someone I know who intents to fly but doesn't have a DL, just school ID.
