Trump administration officials worried ahead of the announcement Tuesday of a phaseout of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that President Trump didn't fully understand what the move would mean.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the decision Tuesday to end the Obama-era program, which allowed hundreds of thousands of young people who were brought to the country illegally as children to live here free from the fear of deportation.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that administration officials privately raised concerns as late as one hour before the announcement about Trump's understanding of the effects of rescinding DACA.

Officials worried that when Trump realized the full details of the decision on DACA, he might change his mind, according to the report.

"The program known as DACA that was effectuated under the Obama administration is being rescinded," Sessions announced Tuesday.

Sessions said the program would be phased out and that no new applications from people who hope to be DACA recipients would be taken after today.

Trump tweeted Tuesday ahead of the announcement that Congress should be prepared to do its job and come to an agreement on the program.

"Congress, get ready to do your job - DACA!" Trump tweeted.

Yea, I think the pessimistic people are giving him too much credit. I legit believe this. He probably didn't know what rescinding meant. That's why he tweeted about revisiting this in 6 months if congress doesn't act. In 6 months people will start expiring and tbh, I really don't see how that will help the GOP. That's going to be long term damage to their party when Dems start milking the Dreamers crying and losing their jobs. This is a long term problem for him if congress fails to pass some type of fix for us.

What did you expect? The lawsuit coming through and deeming DACA illegal and unconstitutional and havibg all its aspects about it immediately rescinded including deferred action from deportation, renewals, new applications, etc

I'm not a Trump sympathizer but at least he didn't eliminate everything about it on spot or leave it to the courts.

what a lot of you don't get is that he's walking on very thin ice here.
not just with his voting base, but people like ann coulter that refuse any type of legalization before dealing with our borders.

Let him suffer the backlash.

I agree with article. It's a HUGE possibility. What the fuck is up with the tweet....we will revisit the issue in 6 months. Lmfaoo

Guy is senile man, watch his interviews when he was younger, and compare it to how he sounds now.. he even spoke on our favor back in 2011. I think he's just old and senile tbh.
