Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (Texas) on Thursday quickly threw cold water on efforts by Democrats to persuade President Trump to support a stand-alone bill to protect an estimated 800,000 undocumented immigrants from deportation.

Shortly after Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) spoke with Trump Thursday morning about moving the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which would lift the threat of deportation from people who came to the country illegally as children, commonly known as "Dreamers," Cornyn said the legislation would not come to the floor in its current form.

“The minority leader doesn’t set the Senate schedule and the DREAM Act — we’re not going to vote on the DREAM Act as a stand-alone,” Cornyn told reporters.

Dems agree to border security and just pass this damn thing .
More below from Cornyn

Can you imagine that when President Obama couldn’t pass the DREAM Act through Congress and did this through executive action, that now a Republican majority would take it up and pass that same legislation without border security and enforcement provisions?” Cornyn said.

Non news. This was a given. In the press conference yesterday Durbin already said he's willing to attach border security to the dream act. The red line was the wall.

It’s what we have been saying all along. Give them their damn enforcement. There MUST be congressional interns reading this forum. TELL THEM TO COMPROMISE AND GIVE THEM ENFORCEMENT!

They can't. They can't throw the rest of undocumented immigrant community under the bus for the sake of 800K DACAers.

That would be an immoral thing to do.

Why are they worried? They’re already in the country. Enforce the border!

What are you talking about? A border wall doesn't affect the undocumented community; they're already here! If you were talking about e-verify or more raids in the interior, that'd be different, but a border wall doesn't hurt our community and might be what helps us get DA. We have to be pragmatic as opposed to idealistic.

He's a troll ignore him. Democrats will come around to border security, they are playing hardball so republicans know they will only be able to make small concessions.

McConnell and Ryan only care about "tax reform" or tax cuts to the rich.

A reason I will never vote Republican.
