You go to a center, apply, and they mail it to you.

Bring a filled out form SS-5 (or pick one up at the spot and fill it up), you get a number, do fuck all while listening for them to call your name, go to a window, hand them the EAD, passport, and the form, then go home.

They will mail you the card within 2 weeks. You can try coming back a day or two later to get a printout of your number, some people have done that. There is no way to get a card sooner than the 1-2 weeks it takes them however.

Just a regular government building, security at the front, take a number, wait your turn.

Take a number, wait while you fill out some form, come up to the booth, answer some questions or something, and they'll mail you your SSN card like less than a week later. At least it was this quick for me when I went.

I don't remember getting a print-out like the Driver's License with your number already on it. I believe you have to wait for it in the mail.
