Have any of you taken an auto/home loan? If so, what did you claim under citizenship? I doubt Banks are crazy about giving us loans right now, but am not exactly sure about the legality of claiming one thing or another.

I recall with my broker, I could be considered a US person as defined by the IRS, which I believe fell under same category as citizens, so am trying to explore all gray areas.

I can only share my experience regarding a car loan, but when I got it, they didn't even ask for my citizenship status.
I bank with a CU currently, and even while enrolling and applying for the loan (in person at the branch) they just wanted 2 forms of ID; gave them my DL, and the second could've been just a debit/credit card with my name on it, but I had so much stuff under my name as proofs of address, etc, that they didn't ask for that second form.
Even for my SSN I just had to give them the number, they didn't ask for the card itself. Only question was when my SSN was issued while the decision was being made, because the number it wouldn't be valid under the old system. But even then no need for the card itself, just told them the month and year, and that it was after the numbers got randomized in 2011. Another reason I'd recommend going with a CU instead of a big bank

I'm going through a mortgage atm, I put that I was not a citizen nor a permanent citizen. I told the bank about my situation, but they seem not to care. Instead, they were more concern about the age of my credit (less than 1 year), but it seemed not to be an issue since I had provided 3 years of tax return fillings.

As for the car loan, I had a friend co-sign with me back in December, I put the same thing, not a citizen nor permanent resident. The interest rate was 4.6%, I had no credit score at the time.

Usually they ask about your visa status

Banks get feedback from the DHS and they will not if you are a USC or not. I would no dare to claim i'm a USC if I'm not. That's a deportable offense.

I always thought it was if you claimed it on a federal level.
