Hey everyone

Well, I'm new to this site and I guess I could tell you a little bit about myself. I came to the US when I was 12, I am now 18. I started 7th grade here and now thanks to the help of a lot of people I am doing my first year at UCLA. It is very hard to pay for tuition but Im managing somehow. I used to live in Mexico where my dad worked for the government then we came because my two older brother and sister were starting college over in Mexico and my dad couldnt keep up with the tutition so we came over here. Like many of you, I also went through a lot of discrimination and lack of support in high school. Attending a predominantly white high school did not help much either. Eventually, things started to take shape and I adjusted to the environment. I started taking AP classes with all the other kids who did not think I would be able to make it. By the end of my senior year, everyone respected me for my intelligence and hard work as well as my perseverance which I showed by going from the bottom to the top of my senior class. I made it a challenge to not only demonstrate to those people that I could not only catch up to their level but go further than that. Today, I work very hard with an organization at my campus on legislation affecting undocumented students as well as informing students and counselors about AB 540 and the struggles that undocumented struggles have to face.
